T-Scan
Dr. Raj Upadya specializes in treating complex dental problems including TMJ related pain and bite problems. A balanced bite is one of the most important elements of a comfortable, long lasting smile. T-Scan, digital bite analysis, is one of the advanced technologies that Dr. Upadya uses to help him diagnose bite problems and TMJ disorders.
T-Scan is a digital technology that evaluates the occlusion (bite) by measuring the force and timing of tooth contacts. This technology allows Dr. Upadya to efficiently and effectively diagnose and treat improper alignment as part of TMJ therapy and bite correction.
Traditional methods for analyzing a patient’s bite were highly ineffective. Dentists either had to rely on their own visual assessment or the results of patient biting down on special paper. The articulating paper only showed the end results of occlusal contact, unable to record which teeth made contact first or record the relative strength of impact.
The T-Scan, is a hand held device with a wafer thin sensor. The patient simply bites down on the sensor and the digital software records both the timing and force of the bite. This information is sent to a computer to be analyzed and integrated into the diagnosis of bite problems.
