Symptoms & Treatments
Many patients experience chronic or painful symptoms but don’t realize they may be caused by a treatable dental condition. Headaches, migraines and neck pain could be connected with disfunction in the Temporomandibular Joints (TMJ). Cosmetic concerns such as stained teeth or crooked teeth, may be caused by underlying functional or health problems. Here are some frequently described symptoms:
My Teeth are Stained, Dark or Discolored
Foods, beverages and certain medications as well as age and hereditary factors can cause teeth to stain or darken over time. Teeth whitening is the easiest and most convenient procedure in cosmetic dentistry. In less than an hour, you can walk out of our office with a whiter, brighter smile. We use Zoom technology for in-office treatment, as well as offer affordable and convenient at home options for teeth whitening.
I have White Spots on My Teeth
White spots on the teeth are actually an early sign of decay. These spots often form during orthodontic treatment when it is difficult to brush around metal braces. Food and debris are held against the teeth, creating acid and eroding the tooth’s enamel, leaving behind a white spot. Dr. Upadya treats white spots using Icon dental treatment, drill-less technology that stops cavities from progressing and eliminates white spots.
My Gums Are Sore or Bleed When I Brush Them
Sore and bleeding gums are classic signs of periodontal disease, better known as gum disease. Gum disease affects 3 out of 4 American adults and is the leading cause of tooth loss. Dr. Upadya will perform a comprehensive examination to determine if you have gum disease and then recommend treatment options.
I Have Old Metal Fillings That Are Unattractive and Uncomfortable
Dr. Upadya uses metal free restorations with his patients. Composite resin fillings, or “white fillings”, are more comfortable and attractive, compared to older amalgam (silver fillings). Larger cavities can be treated using porcelain inlays or onlays which cover the biting surface of the tooth. Teeth that show signs of significant wear or decay may be covered with a dental crowns to protect the tooth and restore its strength and beauty.
My Teeth Are Crooked, Overlapping or Have Gaps Between Them
Few people are born with a “perfect smile”. Dr. Upadya offers many treatment options for making the teeth straighter including Invisalign. Invisalign is orthodontic treatment for patients who have mild to moderate concerns. Invisalign uses a series of clear aligners to gently reposition the teeth. Orthodontic treatment may be combined with other cosmetic dental procedures like porcelain veneers or composite bonding to give the smile with a natural looking, healthy appearance.
My Jaw Makes a Popping or Clicking Noise
A popping or clicking noise in the jaw joint (TMJ) can be a sign of instability in the occlusion (bite). Dr. Upadya has extensive training and experience in treating complex dental problems such as TMJ disorders. Aided by the latest technology, Dr. Upadya can make an accurate diagnosis and depending on your condition, recommend a variety of treatment options to correct the disfunction and repair any damage that may have been caused.
I Frequently Have Morning Headaches and Neck Pain that Continues Through the Day
Headaches and migraines are often misdiagnosed by physicians. In some cases, headaches may be caused by or worsened by instability in the occlusion (bite). Aided by state-of-the-art diagnostic technology and experienced in treating TMJ disorders, Dr. Upadya will perform a thorough evaluation and make treatment recommendations based on his findings.
I have Missing Teeth, Broken or Damaged Teeth
Missing teeth, broken and damaged teeth are the source of embarrassment for many people. Accidents and physical trauma are common causes of missing teeth, but also periodontal disease, tooth decay and hereditary factors contribute to tooth loss. Depending on your age, condition and lifestyle, there are a number of excellent options for replacing teeth. Dental Implants require a significant investment, but provide a permanent solution for tooth loss. Dental implants may be used to replace a single tooth or used in combination with dental bridges, dentures or partial dentures. Dental Crowns are a conservative method used to preserve natural teeth that may be weakened or broken.
My Teeth Have Rough Edges and Tiny Chips
An unstable bite can cause teeth to wear prematurely. Grinding of the teeth can create tiny chips along the edge of the teeth, making them rough or jagged. Also, teeth that aren’t making proper contact can put unnecessary force or pressure on teeth, making them break down. Dr. Upadya has special experience working with TMJ disorders and can examine your condition to make recommendations for repairing instability as well as any damage that may have been caused.
